We’ve come a long way since the itchy mohair days of those oversized batwing sweaters in the 1980s. Today we prefer to knit with a kid (young goat) mohair which hits a totally different softness note but with no less fluffiness than it’s older sibling. This Kid Seta blend from Gepard is a lace-weight yarn that includes 30% silk to add strength, softness and drape to the yarn. What this skinny yarn lacks in diameter, it more than makes up for in floofiness, making it an ideal accompaniement to be ‘held double’ with more substantial yarns that could do with a matching or contrasting fluffy halo.
Worked on its own or doubled with itself, it will create feather light fabric that suits big stitches that make room for the mohair fluff to express itself and diffuse the light. Or for project where it is held alongside a different yarn, expect the thicker yarn to be transformed to create a fabric considerably softer, warmer and fluffier than it would otherwise have been.
