About Wild and Woolly

Wild and Woolly is a shop and a workshop – a place where you can come and talk about what you’re making, not just what you’re buying.

It began as an idea to create somewhere for knitters to find all the tools, materials and support they’d need to finish their projects. 

I wanted it to be a place where knitters could share their curiosity and inspire others, where they could discover extraordinary yarns and learn about where the material came from in the first place.  

I am Anna and in 2014 I opened Wild and Woolly as a way of joining all those things together. 

When deciding what to sell, we start by choosing wool, cotton and linen that we really like to knit with ourselves.

We always try to source our yarns directly from the people and mills that make them, getting to know the producers and learning how they work. 

And it turns out that these stories really matter – that the expertise and care we find among the small teams we work with, gets twisted into the fibre of the yarn that they make.

The thought and care that went into making the wool that you decide to use for your project, continues in your hands as you begin knitting with it, and Wild and Woolly is there to help you with that all the way.

Our experience is that there is untold wonder in the hours, days, even months you spend making something by hand from scratch, turning a ball of wool into a blanket, scarf or sweater. 

We know it’s going to take time – and mistakes, and fixing them, and learning new techniques, and unpuzzling instructions – to get to the end. 

We do that by offering classes that cover fundamental skills, as well as new techniques to inspire new projects.  

There’s a table in the shop where you can get help or just sit and get on with your project, to see what others are making and share your progress with them.

And once a month we open at night for you all to come and knit together, so that stories, catastrophes, ideas and inspiration can be shared, unravelled and resolved. 

Whatever your skills or your style, Wild and Woolly will help find the right project for you, the tools you need to make it, the expertise and people that can help you finish it, and the yarn that will make you love it.
