Learn to Crochet a Hooded Scarf
11 November, 2024 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
$120
This 3 part class takes place on 11, 18 and 25 November
For absolute beginners, rusty old-timers and unsure novices, this 3 part course will get you properly in the crochet saddle so that you can confidently move onto more ambitious projects afterwards.
Join experienced crocheter, Nina Dell’Omarino for this 3 part course that will take you step by step through along a crochet path that will have you wrapped in a beautiful hooded scarf of crocheted squares by the time you’re finished.
During the course you will learn how to :
- make a foundation chain, the centre piece of a granny square and the foundation of most crochet projects.
- double crochet, the primary stitch used in granny squares. It forms the bulk of the design and gives the square its open, lacy look.
- slip stitch, to join sections and finish rounds neatly.
- work in rounds, starting from the centre and working outward. You’ll learn how to properly join rounds and create the layered effect.
- change colours. You’ll practice switching yarn colours in your square to create a multi-coloured effect. This will involve fastening offone colour and attaching a new one, an essential technique for more complex projects.
- repeat patterns: Granny squares follow a repeated pattern of stitches and clusters. You’ll get comfortable with this repetition, which will help you build muscle memory.
- keep your work consistent: You’ll create several squares, learning how to keep your work consistent in size and tension.
- joining squares together: Once you’ve made several granny squares, you’ll learn how to sew or crochet them together into a larger piece. This also teaches you finishing techniques like weaving in loose ends.
You will need:
4 different colours DK yarn – 100g of each colour.
Crochet Course students can purchase the yarn from Wild and Woolly with a 10% participant’s discount.
