Zagal is a chunky weight 2 stranded worsted spun yarn produced exclusively from the wool of Portuguese Merino sheep, found in the south of Portugal. The Merino originated in the Iberian Peninsula and has always been highly prized for its softness. The two thick strands of this non super wash treated yarn make it bouncy and warm with good stitch definition, suitable for a wide range of garments and accessories including those with texture and cable patterns.
This yarn has not been Superwash treated so we recommend hand washing and drying flat. Did you know that wool repels dirt naturally? We recommend regular airing in cold air between washes to extend the life of the garment. On frosty mornings you may find us laying out our favourite sweaters in the garden! However, always wash sweaters before you store them for the summer as moths tend to enjoy a little gravy with their yarn…
Rosa Pomar has played a pioneering role in championing yarns made from the wool of native Portuguese sheep breeds. Her work has been game-changing for hand knitters and has helped inspire a generation of independent wool makers who involve farmers and shepherds in their manufacturing process to create honest, planet-conscious yarns.
